The Star is a clay shooting club, shooting the English Sporting discipline, at times we will also have either a Compak layout, a pool shoot or a flurry. The membership has a widely mixed shooting and social background, within the membership you will find all the shooting disciplines, collectors and firearms dealers. In fact the membership is a repository of considerable expertise and knowledge whatever area(s) of shooting you are interested in, naturally in this environment friendships and introductions to other shooting opportunities frequently develop.
The Star Gun Club
The Star is different to some clubs being a true members club, owned by its members, with exclusive use of extensive grounds on the very edge of South West London. As a private members club shooting is restricted to members and their personal guests, however we now operate a “day members” scheme so you are welcome to turn up and shoot.
Membership was traditionally restricted by maximum numbers and there was always a waiting list of shooters hoping to join. Recently this policy has been changed and we now manage membership by the number shooting at each shoot. This has enabled the club to take more members and currently there is no waiting list. Many of our members have been with the club since its inception. We have a reputation of being one of the finest private shoots in Surrey. We endeavour to foster the sport of clay pigeon shooting and although we have the usual sections for Colts, Ladies and Veterans many shoot in class. We especially welcome membership applications from Colts and Ladies (colts shoot free) and we have a growing number of members who are new to the shotgun disciplines or shooting itself. Our belief is that there is merit in newcomers shooting a normal range of targets and the level is set by very experienced shoot managers, who analyse scores after each shoot, to provide a mixed range of targets that challenge all levels.
Today the Star Gun Club is a thriving private members club of over 300 members who enjoy challenging targets across ten to twelve stands set in beautiful rolling countryside at Malden Rushett in Surrey. The Club leases around 30 acres from the Crown Estate and additional land from a private landowner over which it has exclusive access. The club meets every second and fourth Sunday in the month for a competitive Club Shoot.
The Star Gun Club was formed on the fields of Barts Farm in the mid 1970’s by a small group of keen shooters, the original group were from a mixed background such as an ex-Police Officer, a local publican, a farmer and a gunsmith. The origins like many clubs was what today might be called a “straw bale shoot”. Friendship was the entire structure of the club and number of the original members are still with the Star.
